Hemi Exhaust thoughts
I know there are plenty of threads about this, but I want to put a cat-back single system on my 07 QC/short box. My options are Magnaflow, Gibson, or Dynomax. A few people have said the Flowmaster American Thunder is really loud. I want a throaty rumble to it idle, but want to be able to think and talk while its running and I do occasionally tow a trailer. My other thought is to have a local shop install a single turbo style muffler (3" in/out). Any pros/cons to any of the systems? I had a Jardine dual setup on my 97 chevy that sounded awsome, but I see that they don't make pickup exhausts any more. I know I could cut the resinators out and patch it back in, but if I'm doing that, I might as well change the whole thing out. Thanks in advance
The piping other than the y pipe is pretty decent. I changed out the muffler for an aeroturbine and sounded about right to me. I left both resonators in and on the highway and light throttle can't even tell I did anything until i need to pass. I saw really good gains but I also did intake and headers at the same time.
I would have to agree with brusk on this one..i ended up takin out the stock muffler and resonator and putting in an aeroturbine at3030 muffler in and LOVE IT..its very throaty and def turns heads when i drive by. Another good brand would be Magnaflow..but all in all i am very happy with my aeroturbine..
I'd stay away from the chambered type of muffler (Flowmaster 40,44, 50, etc.) they just are too restrictive. IMO you gonna replace the stock muffler you should get some performance out of it besides just the sound. The Rustmasters don't have much better flow than the stock one.
AT3030 is a good one for flow and deep sound, although IMO not near as deep or throaty as a Cherry Bomb Vortex. Borlas are deep and stainless and a very short Magnaflow would also be a nice choice in stainless. Gibsons are ok, but the Dynomax is a "price-point" muffler, seen the welds rust out pretty quick on them.
I have the Cherry Bomb Extreme, but you gotta watch them (and the Flowmaster 10 series which is basically a CB Extreme clone), lots of inspection states ain't too keen on them and they are classified "Off-Road Use" only, but they are LOUD and DEEP.
No matter which muffler you pick, first step is to ditch the factory "Y", it's a restrictive POS. The Maggy in stainless is cheap (about $25) and as free flowing as you can get in a "Y" pipe...

On this subject maybe someone has an anwer for me. I have a custom Y, 21" Magnaflow duals out behind the rear wheels. I love it but at 2k rpms or around 75 mph (where my cruise is set) I have an annoying drone. Will adding a res. Before or after the muffler help this?
