Just installed the K&N Intake, is the POP noise normal?
Its killing me not being 100% sure about the sound, actually thinking more about it, it sounds like popping a cork from a champagne bottle, also, if it was the egr, shouldnt it always happen when i let off? It doesnt always happen though and it usually happens if im letting off from a higher rpms, if im driving around the neighborhood at low rpms, it usually wontt do it, i wish someone had a vid of what the egr sound sounds like. Also, sometimes its louder than other times
It would be too hard to make a vid but i took some friends for a ride who work on trucks and techs at dealers and all say that it sounds like a normal sound and it is i guess the egr valve or somthing opening and closing when i use the throttle, either way, im very close to going back to stock, the egr noise is too annoying and plus i dont really feel a power difference afterall, if anything, truck feels slower and restricted, its super loud but doesnt go anywhere, not really all that happy with the intake, maybe its K&N

Well now, that's going from one extreme to the other. Are you sure you're not a woman??? LMAO...

Well the mpg is still better but i guess the sound of the intake is what made it feel faster but after a few days, i realized, its actually not faster, it feels restricted, its makes so much noise but doesnt feel like its really going anywhere
I gained mpg's on my 6.0 Silverado but went with taller tires, Volant CAI and Hypertech tuner.
My 07' Dodge seemed as if I lost mpg's with a Volant CAI....plus it was too loud and intrusive for my daily driving needs. That is WITH the Hemi hat on too ! Now I have an Airaid MIT and like it much better.
That said....I have friends with the Hemi hat removed and a K&N kit with no popping that I recall. We've towed with it and gone from NY to MD.
I don't think popping is normal, imo.

yea, thats how I fell about it as well, i dont feel real gains and the more I drive it, I actually dont see a mpg gain either, so overall, im not really have with an intake, anyone else have issues with there intakes or K&N intakes?
An intake - by itself - isn't going to make a difference you'll be able to feel, unless you have a highly calibrated BUTT DYNO. I mean unless you're going to something like a Vararam we are only talking 7 or 8 horses AT THE CRANK which equates to about 4 or 5 at the rear wheels.
BUT, you shouldn't LOSE power or MPGs unless you created an issue installing it (like fouling the intake sensor, etc.)
Where a CAI comes into it's own is when it's combined with mods that will make use of the increased air-flow (ported TB, cam, heads, etc.) AND you've made changes to expel that increased air (headers, cat-back, better "Y" pipe). Otherwise you're still moving air thru the system as fast as the most restrictive component.
Too many people buy into the advertising "kool aid" and think that by adding a CAI they are gonna see a world of difference, which is why I try to convince everyone to build their own for $25 (plus filter cost) rather than spend $200+ on one. The gains are almost IDENTICAL...

I'm referring to the AIT, the thing is sensitive as hell and it don't take much of a bump to throw it off. Also seen the oil from the filter foul them...
