30000mi brakes shot, normal?
Hello everybody,
My '04 1500 QC 2wd
started making dreaded brake grind noise and sure enough brakes and rotors gone.
My question is is this normal for these trucks? I just did brakes and rotors 30,000 mi ago. Replaced with stock parts. I do no towing or heavy hauling and I deliberately take it easy on my truck. (Can't afford gas otherwise!)
thanks for any help,
Jim

Depends on how you drive. I'm at 52k on my truck, still original pads, fronts still had about 40% last I rotated the tires at 50k, backs had a bit more. I tow some too, not often but when I do it's usually heavy.
The Jeep forums are full of guys who b*tch about how often they go through pads and rotors on Grand Cherokees. I just had to do the rears but only because a caliper seized up and tore up the pads and rotor, the other side still had 80% with 40k on them.
I had to replace pads (and often rotors or at least have them turned) on the ex-wife's Grand Cherokees every 20k miles like clockwork. The woman would drive with either all gas or all brake and wouldn't use lower gears downhill in the mountains no matter how many times I told her. The b*tch would ride the brake the whole way down a steep grade!!!

i dont know about rams, but I owned my dakota from the time it had 2,000 miles till it had 75k miles and went through 2 sets of brakes. The last time I had it done was at like 70k miles and I had to do pads rotors calipers and lines in the front.
Did my first set of pads and rotors at just under 70k on my 06' 1500 QC. I was amazed at how long they lasted. Had my original 20" Tires for 80k and they had so much meat left i sold them for $40.00 each. But i never tow or haul anything. Maybe that's why?
