Homemade CAI & Dyno Before/After Y-Pipe
Ok, built my homemade CAI this weekend, sorry no pictures yet, but it was much easier than I thought. Sounds good once I get over 2K rpm.
So yesterday I get a small Xmas bonus from work so I figured I would stop by my local exhaust shop http://www.mandrelbend.com/default.asp to ask about the cost of putting a Magnaflow y-pipe on. Guy gives me $150 price and says he would also like to use my truck to make a template for this application so he can sell this y-pipe and other pipes already formed over the intenet for easier installation. Rest of the exhuast is original stock resonators and muffler. To sweeten the deal of the install he wants to pay to have my truck dynoed before and after y-pipe install to document any HP/Torque gain.
So long story short I go to get the dyno tomorrow at 9:00 AM and then the y-pipe installed after that. Not sure when I go back for the follow up dyno but I hope it is back there tomorrow afternoon.
Does this sound like a good/bad idea? Is the $150 price fair for y-pipe and other pipes needed to make it fit? Besides my truck flying off the dyno and crashing into a wall are there any other concerns I should have about the dyno process?
Thoughts?

if the $150 includes labor/welding- jump on it..
the dyno:
ever heard of an Italian tune-up?
make sure your oil is good.. I'd almost rec a change before and after.. an engine likes to be ran hard every once in a while, and it's also a good way to find out if anything is going to break.. it would be nice if it breaks under his watch, and in his care... ya know?

You can get the Magnaflow Y on numerous sites for $23.00 and my shop said they would weld it up for $30.00. You shouldn't need any other pipes to make it fit up if you get the right y. I agree with Duroc $150.00 seems pretty steep. But when you do get it done please do post the dyno results, that would be very interesting to see. I really don't think there will be a massive jump in tq and hp but still interesting.
Ok, I have placed some pictures of the Homemade CAI and the new Y-pipe in my profile album section. Nothing spectacular looks like most others and I have not had a chance to paint the CAI yet. I have also attached a copy of the Dyno results that were run pre and post Y-Pipe install. Not sure how much stock one can take in these numbers but it is a base line to work off of if this data is not out there yet. Besides the CAI and Y-Pipe the rest of the exhaust is stock. I was told these #'s were based on a 2nd gear pull and one can only assume that the pre install number would be the lowest of all runs and the post install number would be the highest of all numbers.
The only negative result of this install is a reoccurring P0153 code. From what I can tell this is a pre-cat 02 sensor that is slow to respond. The shop that did my exhaust installed a new 02 sensor, at no cost, but the check engine light eventually came back on. I will post another thread on this as I don't error but I wanted to mention it here as well if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this code to keep showing up?
