Default Is it time to make a change to Ford?

Well, I am tired of getting 6-7 mpg while towing and I am tired of the HEMI making up in RPM's when it doesnt have the torque to get something done. I need diesel. I also need a bigger cab then a quad cab (I have twin boys) and I need a long bed. Only problem is I am military and dont make enough to buy a newer style Ram with a crew cab and long bed so what do I do? I am thinking about going Ford. Of course, the 6.0 sucks so I will have to get a 2008 or higher so I can get the twin turbo 6.4.

Thoughts?

I'd go GM if that's the case. The Allison is a nice trans and they don't seem to have any trouble with the engine either.

I don't think they make a long bed mega cab so there's no Dodge in your future unless you've got $60k for a new one.

With Ford, you have to pull the body off the truck to get at the engine for complex repairs. Thier are two versions of the 6.0, last generation is better and my loyal ford friends ( no longer a ford guy ) tell me the issues with the 6.0 can be solved in the after market.

If I had to go brand new, I would go for a dodge, only because you don't need to fill up with ( I think its urea ?? ) that ford and Gm need to make the new generation trucks cleaner burning to use more flue.

I really like he 6speed auto trans behind the 6.0 vorteck ( my work truck, 2500 GMC) but I have yet to see a quad cab with a 8 foot box.

Tiwn turbo 6.4 is a new engine from Ford.

What ever you do, don't get a triton v/10 gas.

What's your budget? You won't be able to get a long bed, but the '06-'07 2500 MegaCabs could be had with the coveted Cummins 5.9L turbo diesel.

Yea I would say your best bet is to try to find a 5.9 Cummins with about 100k or less hopefully on it. GM would be my next choice and Ford would definitely be last. The new 6.7 PS is a different story but also probably out of your price range

What about the 7.3 power stroke. My co worker has an 03 excursion he tows with. He gets 10 to 12 towing a 26 foot boat.

to get the megacab with a long box, you will have to do it aftermarket. It is not a factory option

Ford hasn't made a diesel worth a sh*t since the 7.3 PowerStroke IMO and I don't really have a lot of confidence in the CTD 6.7 either for that matter. The 7.3s are just too long in the tooth now to hope to find a good one that hasn't been beaten and has tons of miles on it.

If it were me I'd be looking 5.9 CTD in a MegaCab or a Duramax...
