Also, the CARFAX only shows what was executed under insurance claims, correct? I've only ever paid attention to CARFAX reports as deal BREAKERS, not deal makers.

This very well may be the one hidden diamond that I'd be passing over and missing out on a steal of a lifetime(possible pun intended). However, me, personally, I would never buy a rental or a theft recovery.

 

Problem is, even if the truck is pristine, you'll be up a creek when the time comes to sell it.

 

As a small sample, of potential future buyers of 'your truck'... you can see how hard it would be to get someone interested in it..

 

Also, dumb question, but is it a clear title or a salvage title? Not sure how it works in whatever state you are in, if a salvage can be "returned to safe operating condition" and re-registered or not. I know it can be done over here, and I *think* it was possible in Arkansas, though I never tried and don't know anyone who did personally. If it is or was a salvage title, run away as fast as your flippers will carry you. Since it's a consignment, I am not sure what sales regulations the dealership is under with that vehicle, either.

 

I went with my gut and passed on it. Talked to the dealership once again, they did NOT want to do the inspection. They said I could have it done once I purchased it. Or pay 100 bucks up front to have it done. WTF! I said they can keep it. Like one here said, there are thousands of Rams out there.

I am looking at a 2005 Hemi on the weekend now. Super clean Carfax and just 60k miles on it, for just three grand more. It's bone stock though, which might not be bad after all.

 

I feel somewhat relieved that you have decided to pass on that truck... you were wise to listen to good advice and what your gut was telling you. I strongly feel you made the right decision, for what my opinion is worth.

Just back from Calgary, bought the truck (the one pictured three posts above) and I'm happy with it. It looks like new, has linex bedliner and has a brand new Class 5 hitch, brand new trailer brake controller and brand new air bags installed! It' never been towed with for the last 60k miles.
