Mega Cab RPM, what are you getting on the highway
Greetings fellow Ram owners, just laid to rest my 2002 Dodge Ram Quad with the 5.9L, 4x4 on 35s (gonna miss her) and I purchased a 2007 Dodge Ram Mega Cab with the HEMI (only 29K miles). So I have a couple of questions on this truck.
I read that we don't have the MDS, but what RPMs should I be seeing at freeway speeds, mostly around 70mph. I am at almost 2k on the RPM and I was usually at about 1600 RPM on the 5.9L. So just wondering what RPMs are you guys getting with the HEMI at FWY speeds.
This is a stock truck, 2wd with CAI.
thanks

MDS doesnt lower rpms just so you know. RPMs stay the same in equip Rams.
I have altered my transmission so I get higher rpms at all speeds. It increases performance by keeping the truck within its powerband and it actually improves mpg's! Ofcourse by 70mph, my truck is in 5th and I am at 1850rpm with my stock 3:73 gears. Use of a Superchips tuner with Advanced trans tuning to alter shifts.
The Hemi has 100HP more and still gets better mgps than the 5.9L so your already ahead!

Looks like you have 245/70r17 tires on the truck. That would give you 681 revs/mile.
681*3.73*.67*(70/60)=1985 RPM. A 35" tire would be around 576 revs/mile. If you had those 35" with a 3.55 axle. 576*3.55*.67*(70/60) =1598 RPM.
You old truck was really gear pretty high. Most people would want at least the 3.92 or higher for 35" tires.
