2006 Worth Keeping or Not?
2006 Hemi, 170,000 kilometres (105,000 miles). Treated me well. Should I keep or replace? Expensive repairs will come up soon plus expensive cosmetics such as interior. New engine or transmission is probably $3000 easily. These will have to be done by experts. Does cost benefit make it worth it? Thx
I have an 06' with 103,000 miles.
What expensive repairs will be coming up? Their are people with plenty of Rams with over 200k miles original engines and trannies. Follow the fluid change guidelines, do general maintenance and don't abuse your truck and you should easily be able to double the mileage on your truck.
And expensive cosmetics? My interior looks like new. An interior will not "wear out" unless you abuse it. My buddy has over 300,000 miles on his Toyata and his interior is immaculate.
The only reason to sell your truck now would be to get more for it in a sale or trade. Other then that, no reason at all to sell it because it MIGHT have issues.

My 02 is running pretty dam good with over 202,000 miles, mostly original components still as well. Besides my swiss cheese dash board, just my center console has a small hole where I always put my elbow. Now, yes, I am planning on sometime this year getting the engine rebuilt (actually I was thinking about doing that last year, but she's still running so strong).
Has your truck been abused to the point that you don't think it will last much longer without an extensive overhaul, or do you just not have faith that your truck will last a long time?
The biggest factor will be your financial situation... Do you have the money to buy a truck or a stable enough job to be making payments for 4-5 years? My truck payments were $400 a month, after I paid my last payment, I tried to put at least half of that into a savings account to save up for the big repairs or for whatever.
My AC compressor is shot right now, so I'll have to replace that, and a few of the other AC system components at the same time. That's going to be about a $400 - $500 bill that I only have to pay just once. To me, that beats a monthly truck note of $400 - $500 any day. Some big stuff I can do myself, with the help and knowledge of this great forum so I save a lot of money on labor costs.
I love my 02 and plan on keeping it for a long time, no matter how bad the price of gas gets.
