So far, I've taken 3 short trips on hot days. The strips are holding up just fine and so are the lights!
It'd be very easy to add additional tape if needed and I did tape up the strips with small pieces of Gorilla tape to be on the safe side just incase any sag were to happen. It is 3m tape, or so the label I peeled off said so. Could be immitation Chinease tape, who knows.
The sun has been beating down the last week something fierce as it's been pretty hot out(mid-upper 80's). So, with the sun on the hood, it heats up the metal without even driving. So far so good. ;-)

As far as the mercury switch, I have one, but most are for alarms and remotr starts and are only rated for .8A or so. The twin-3ft 5050 strips draw about 2A of current, too much for a standard mercury switch.

So, me and a buddy sat with folding chairs in front of the truck with the hood open(for light) at about 11pm this past weekend drinking some beer. Was perfect, we didn't get all bugged up!!! All I need to do now is add a little radio for under the hood so I have tunes while I'm working in/around there...lol Ohh, I will.

I just won a bid for 1000 pcs. of superbright, white LEDs with a 45% dispersion pattern on ebay. Was gonna make me a set for under the hood a la 'Dog and do a couple of other things around the truck & jeep with some.

I will have plenty left to make up sets when I'm done - just dunno how long they will take to get here - they are coming from Hong Kong, LOL...

All the LED's I buy are from Asia..its funny but they are so cheap and have worked flawlessly for me. I didn't buy anything from V-leds or any of those vendors shipping is usually about two weeks for my eBay LED's

Yep sure do. PM me.

5050's I use are the brightest SMD/LED made to date! I have compared them against 3528's and there's just no comparison!

Yep for light output you want 5050s. I learned a lot about LEDs when a friend of mine had a business manufacturing LED signs. For those who have been around long enough to remember when I was making things for trucks out of billet aluminum and diamond plate, I was using the equipment in his shop.

Where the strength of the smaller LEDs come to play is for signs, as they can be grouped much tighter and changing colors comes into the picture. I've got some color 3528s coming, I'm thinking about doing a soft red glow to emanate from my hood scoop...
