Default Questions on 08 1500 Hemi Suspension

this truck is new to me, can you tell if these are original shocks? i'm debating on purchasing some Monroes and they show for the front a complete strut assbly (#171111) and the rears Sensa Trac load adjusting shock (#58640). i do occasionally tow my snowmobile trailer and 4 wheeler, but mostly just standard road driving. i'm going to ask a stupid question, i've never had a vehicle with struts like that in the front, these replace shocks correct??

and in regards to the muffler, what is the "can" thing that is right near my tail pipe? i don't believe this is the original muffler, but again, i have no clue what it is....any comments welcome!!

Well the front spring on the strut looks OEM. But the strut seems to look newer, not as rusted, But looks OEM.

Im stupid too, not sure why theres a strut in the front, and not a shock. But aftermarket shocks can be put in the front, but a strut is there for a reason, so i leave it alone for now.

That "can" just before tail pipe tip, is a resonator, Just a fancy way of saying smaller muffler. takes the sound levels down some more. Theres 2 total + 1 reg muffler on the whole E system ( right??). I choped mine off with a saws all in the 1st week. looks cleaner, and exchaust tip is hidden when i did it. I ran it like that until I put on aftermarket exhaust.

PS. Boy you guys down in NY must use alot of salt on your roads, youve got a massive amount of rust under there compared to mine. But my winters stay colder, and less thaw time, plus our roads are mainly tractioned with dirt.
