Default mega cabs why so cheap

looking at buying a 06-08 dodge ram 2500 mega cab. Most that I have seen around here are about 15k. Most quad cabs are about 3k more on average. Is there something about the mega cabs that I don't know about? What is everyones opinion on 06-08 megas? I am looking at mainly two wheel drive Hemis. Don't really need a 4by4.

thanks

In gassers the Megas go for slightly more than a like QC here, but in the CTDs the Megas seem to average a good $3-4,000 over like used QCs...

I think what holds the price down on Hemi Megas is the weight of the thing and the cost of gas right now...

Sure doesn't appear that way here in the Midwest, in fact it is just the opposite. I know that I sure would like to trade my QC for a MC in the same condition for even money.

Well I can tell you why. I live In Southern California where right now gas is well over $4.00 a gallon. I have a 1500 Mega 4x4. Even though my speedo is off because I am running 35" tires it still says I average 8.3 mpg. That's highway and city. I haven't geared it or superchipped it yet but I will. It is a gas HOG but it doesn't bother me. It offers so much in return I think its a good trade off. I know people on here who hate the Megas and a few months ago I was looking at newer Rams, but when I started comparing the Quads to the Megas, they don't even come close. It is essentaily as 2500 with HUGE solid axles and is the toughest 1500 around. Now, re-reading your post saying you don't need a 4x4, one of the strongest points of the Mega is the Solid axle. Just my $0.02

Yea the thing that made Megas awesome when they came out was that you could get essentially a 1500 with a SFA, the insurance rate of a 1500 for a 2500 frame and a cab fit for a king in the back. But they do suck on gas in the Hemi form. I would love a Mega 4x4 but I have a hard enough time as it is parking my QC on campus and my apartment complex to justify one.

fuel price/usage is the biggest factor in the pricing of them, when i bought my 07, the sticker on it was $36k... right next to it was an 08 hemi with compareable milage same truck down to the color, but the hemi sticker was $18k, i almost bought it to do a cummins swap on but made a deal for the 07 that was more than worth it
