Just as a reminder, be sure to check the HVAC system carefully for the dreaded recirculating and blend door problem. It will cost you plenty to fix after the fact.

Other than my blend door screwing up, my 2005 has been a solid, dependable truck!

 

How do you check that?

 

I dont know how that kind of price would even be possible. KBB supports the 17K, more importantly the guy was already offered $15500 from Carmax. As it is he would only make 500 more and have to deal with me vs walking out with a cashiers check from Carmax.

Looked at a few this weekend, none were as clean and all were priced in the 17K range. Maybe trucks are super popular in my area?

 

They must be because my truck (Although 2WD which makes it less valuable even though I can tow more? Whatever) when I thought about selling last year I was getting offers from dealers of 17k and my truck is 2 years newer and has 20k less miles. So 17k is a high price for a 7 year old truck w/ a moderate amount of miles (I wouldn't consider 60k low but it's not bad). With fuel prices alone you should be able to talk them down. 13k is a low ball offer and you work up from there. Honestly, while KBB is "reputable" there are just some factors that it doesn't take in I feel and it's really optimistic about it's prices. All I'm saying is 17k is the price they expect an uniformed buyer to pay for the truck, if you show them that you're informed then they'll play ball with you. Show them the prices of other trucks in the area that are similar (especially GMs and Fords, that'll get the brand war going)

 

KBB is a little high IMO too. Edmunds is usually more typical of what actual sale prices are.

Keep in mind though. He can go get $15500 from Carmax, they will turn around and sell it on their lot for 20K. The lowest he is going to go is 16K, I would have to be a hell of a BS'er to get him to sell me his truck for less than he can go get for it in 30 minutes at Carmax.

The Chevy and Ford trucks sell for more anyway, not sure I could use that as a bargaining chip.

 

No offense or anything but I know 3 people with 02s and every one of those trucks is problem stricken. The 02 was released too early in my opinion they should've waited longer to work out the kinks and what not. It also is 11 years old too so that's a lil understandable to start wearing down.

 

For that kind of money I would be buying a 2nd gen Cummins...

 

I have a 02 with the 5.9 the only real problem is the gas mileage. The things that have gone wrong can be expected from a truck with 170,000 miles

 

Yea those 5.9's are gas guzzlers for sure. Btw I'm not saying all 5.9's are bad, they just tend to have the most problems out of all the 3rd gens, but they are also the oldest

 

Are there any common problems with the 02's I dont know about? Ive got an 02 qcsb 4x4 with the 4.7 and havent had a single problem that I havent caused, well with the exception of dodges crappy limited slip differential. Im never easy on the truck so a few problems are to be expected, but I keep up on the maintenance and shes holding together great.
