Transition to 17s from 20s
I would like to get rid of the stock 20s on my 05 1500 hemi 4x4. It is stock height and suspension, etc. and I mainly have questions on the offset and backspacing of the potential new wheels. First off, I think I would like to go with 17x8 wheels on 285/70/17 rubber. If anybody has an opinion on a better wheel width for this tire let me know. What would be an appropriate offset and backspacing for this setup? I don't want to have any problems with fitment or rubbing or any other unnecessary wear on the truck which I don't believe will be a problem with this size which is almost identical to the stock 275/60/20. If someone could help me out here that would be great. Also if anyone has pics of this size wheel/tire on a stock 4x4, I would love to see that.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I've done a lot of research on this now and I believe I have it figured out but I still want more opinions. From my current 275/60/20 with the stock 20s at stock height I believe the best option is to go to 285/70/17 tires. I'm still uncertain on what width wheel to go with. I would like to stick with 9" wide wheels because what I'm looking at has a zero offset and 5 inch backspacing which I think it's about right. My question is what would the"actual" diameter be of this tire with those wide wheel? I want to stick with 33s. Also I want thoughts on if my numbers seem correct for proper fitment and if this size tire with this Backspacing and offset Will not look stupid. Thanks
Which tires are you looking at? Are they p metrics (P285) or LT285. I don't think rims quite that wide are necessary for that size tire but they should fit it. If you know what brand, model, and size tire you want, most companies post size/spec charts on their websites.
Don't get me wrong, the tire will fit fine on a 9" wheel. Just saying it would fit smaller ones too so 9's are not required. 4.5" back spacing is what I have and it does stick out some. But I have 305/70's and my son wanted them to stick out a little.
