Default Need help with sound system

So recently I've been onto the idea of upgrading the sound system in my 2006 Ram 1500. It is an SLT with the basic 4 door sound system.

It has 6x9 speakers in the front doors and 5.25 speakers in the rear cargo area (its a single cab).

I replaced a head unit about 2 years ago with a Sony Xplod head unit. I don't know if that will need replacing as well to get a good sounding system? It has more adjustments than I know what to do with and seems high end..

So I'm looking for suggestions. I want to upgrade the speakers and also get an amp.

Would it be worth getting a subwoofer as well?

And I'm really interested in the idea of adding additional dash or pillar mounted speakers- would that give me a better "experience"? And can any head unit run 6 speakers cause I remember there only being wires for 4 speakers.

Thanks!

Don't worry about changing your head unit out, the Xplod is not very high end but it is decent. As far as 6 speakers go the amp will run those and all you need is to feed the amp. I would just upgrade the speakers with probably a 6 channel amp and see how that sounds, you might not want a sub but you can always add one later. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

The two additional speakers he was talking about aren't actually speakers... they are tweeters, which are run through the passive crossovers....

Unless he has the infinity system with 6-speakers from the factory... then there are two small speakers in the dash...
