truck sag with trailer
I have a Ram 1500 that sags when I hook my trailer to it. I bought a weight distribution hitch and use that when I tow. The problem is it still sags almost 3 inches in the rear and almost an inch up front. I put coil over shocks on the rear and that gave me a little help. I am considering putting on leaf helper springs to try to get rid of the sag. Would that help? or should I just have the leaf springs replaced? I know I will have to go to dealer to have new leaf springs put on if that's what I have to do, due to looking at auto parts store and only finding the leaf helper kits. The tongue weight of my trailer is about 700 lbs total tow weight is about 7000 lbs. Truck can tow up to 9250. 2005 with 94000 miles. 2wd

What year and how many miles? If it's been used to haul/tow a lot, it may well be weak springs. You could also air bag it. Helper springs might help, but if the main springs are that weak, it probably wont help much. Maybe swap in a set of 2500 leaf springs?
Mine did the same thing when i hooked up my boat trailer to it. The rear springs looked like a "w" with no weight on it. I bought these http://www.4wheelparts.com/Lift-Kits...kSVhoClAbw_wcB and then these http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index....f966d8d8efed6d It only sinks about 1" in now if that.
Just buy firestone ride rite air bags. You can set them anywhere from 5psi-100psi. I can load my whole 25ft toy hauler with a 1000lb tongue weight and have it sit at stock height. You don't need on board air. Just run your Schrader valves to you back bumper. I've used a bicycle pump to pump them up before.
Timbren SES (larger rubber bulbs to replace your stock bottom-out bumpers) or air bags.
If you go with Timbren and do not have a lift, remove the 1" spacer to allow more suspension travel. I have Timbrens, and when loaded I sit level pretty much regardless of how much weight i'm carrying. However when unloaded and going over larger bumps, you can feel it when your axle contacts the stops.
I chose Timbren over air bags just because i didn't want to worry about changing air pressure if i was in a hurry, which always seems to be the case. I would rather have the air bags tho.
