2003 dodge ram 1500 5.7 Questions.
I am currently looking at a 2003 dodge ram 1500 5.7 with 109k on it the person says it has a bad engine i plan to rebuild it. I am just wondering is there any major problems with these engines/trucks that i should know about?. I currently have a dodge Dakota with a 4.7 engine and it has a noisy engine because of the timing chain tensions and hydraulic lifters and all that crap do the 5.7s have any big problems like the 4.7s did?
Only 1 thing i am concerned about i heard a lot about a 5.7 dodge Hemi tick? people say its the hydraulic lifters? i tried looking them up at the auto store to see what they look like i cant seam to find them are they called something else?
Not sure if it's the same engine but my father-in-law had a 5.7 hemi in a '06 charger and his valve seats dropped and destroyed the engine (his got back in the intake too). Once he got into searching the internet he found a lot of people had the problem once the engine got above 75k miles.
I have an '03 Ram 1500 with electrical problems (headlights mostly), problem cropped up around 175k miles, truck originally from Georgia. The FCM &/or PDC are known weak points and they commonly corrode. If you search for dodge ram FCM you'll find plenty of people that have had issues on 3rd Gens.
