Default 265/65 17 tires on 2008 dodge ram 1500 big horn

I'm thinking of buying rims and tires size 265/65 17 to replace 20 inch rims on my 2008 ram 1500 big horn.looking for opinions from others who have done this.

Most go the other way (bigger and wider), but that should fit fine, given the new wheel dimensions and bolt pattern (5 x 5.5). The tire amounts to about 30.5", down from the 33" tires mounted on the 20" wheel. Assuming you are looking for a regular street tire, you should be fine. I went from the 20" wheel down to 17", but stayed with a 33" +/- 285/70/17 DuraTrac. You'll probably get a bit better MPG and modest butt dyno power increase with less rolling weight to get moving.

Did you have a smoother ride when you changed from 20's down to 17's?

Eh, I can't help you on that one -- I also went with a 3" lift, more sidewall, and stiffer suspension. So, no, it wasn't a smoother ride... :P
