opinions on E85 Ethanol?
I was talking with an automotive tech one day and he gave a reason for the lower fuel mileage for e85. Basically, since the engines are made to run both fuels, they can't use e85 as efficiently as a standalone e85 motor would. Supposedly with a little higher compression e85 should get roughly the same mileage as regular fuel.
That consumers report edition is a little dated, you need to check the link I sent earlier. There are over 1100 stations now with more coming on a daily basis, in my area there is a big push since Texas has the most E85 vehicles in the nation. Additionally the fuel mileage is not as good, but I am only loosing about 1-2 MPG, in fact I just filled up today and compared to regular unleaded I saved $.40 a gallon. Now for the big one, I don't know about any of you but I sure do feel better about putting my money behind an American product and not one from the middle east, but I am sure polictics is for another forum.
I'm with you Ramflexfuel. Even though my 02 won't run on E85 I'd rather buy my gas that came from the U.S. However, what I don't like is the price, even though it's cheaper. I'm so sick of oil companies making record profits I just don't understand why E85 is 2.00 bucks a gallon. Hopefully it goes down as more stations get built.
The amount of land needed to purduce corn, wheat, barley, or surguar beats is huge. The purduction cost's of petroluim flue to run tracters, flue transport trucks, electrical, Furtilizers ( sp ) is huge as well.
Certian ethonal purducing crops can only grow in optuim conditions, no one can predict the wheatheir...
If thier are any benifets in ethanol flue reducing emmissons, the production cost's are higher, more harmful to the environment than petroulim flue.

I thought I heard that somewhere also. We would'nt even have enough land to produce enough corn to support the demand. Anothe concern is that if a lot of farmers switch to producing crops for ethanol there might be a shortage of crops for feed for livestock. I know the price of corn for ethanol is more than it is for feed.
If you read the article on the below link it will put some of that to rest, besides once again do you support the middle eastern oil or the American Farmer. If this thing with Iran Escalates it could shoot gas prices to record highs, I am just happy to have the option. BTW, my wife even seems to think my truck has more power with the E85 than the Gas.

The Amercan Farmer growing corn is going to grow broke, long before even coming with in a eighth of Middle estern oil. Every thing comes arround full circle, the war against terrorism can not be flued with ethonal, or ethonal blends.
Any flue that can be compressed will run in a ICE and I'm all for exploring new options, but consider how much petroluim flue we would save if we got out of cars instead of waiting with ideling cars at fast food drive threws or if we could shut of our cars when stopped in rush hour trafic and start them up automaticly when needed, ( ie golf carts )
People refused to run unleaded gas when leaded gas was cheaper, the best efficent flue will have to be the cheapest, or people will not convert, if Ethanol was cheaper, I would use the flue, but why support the oil companies who are not selling me convental gasoline for more money.
Feed the corn to the Cows and pigs and collect the Methane ...
