I hope you can get respectable fuel mileage with it. I don't need a whole lot more power than what I already have. I don't haul a lot with my truck so a deisel for me would be great because they usually get better fuel mileage. Don't get me wrong the low end torque would be nice but there's only so much you can do with a 1/2 ton.

One thing does not make sense... Cummins engines are almost always in line 6's, even the ones they put in semi's that are putting out 600 HP. That is what Cummins has over Chevy and Ford, they run V-8 diesels to get anywhere near the same power as Cummins in line 6's.
Just my 2 cents. If dodge does put a diesel in the 1500 it would probably be a six cylinder, or not made by Cummins. Jeep put a 4 cylinder diesel in one model this year...

There's already been press releases regarding a Cummins engine in the works for durangos and ram 1500s. They are making both a v6 and a v8. I'm sure the v8 is going to be used in the ram.

The reason for "V" configuired engines is packaging. They are not as long.

Motor Trend reported that Cummins was in the works building a v8 diesel. Reported to go in the new RAM. I wonder what other benefits besides packaging would lead to a V8 diesel in the 1500. Any thoughts on that?

Not to dog on wanderer, but putting engines in inline or v has absolutely nothing to do with size, inline 6's and inline 4's make more torque, and were cheaper to make back in the day.

it's in the Grand Cherokee and actually its a 3.0L V6 CRD (Common Rail Diesel) that is in some M-B cars
