Gear swap in '02, 1500, 4x4
Anyone out there attempted to swap out their ring gears & pinions without buying any special tools? I've got the service manual, but no special tools. Getting the correct pinion/ring gear mesh isn't my main concern. My main concern is being able to disassemble everything, i.e. removing bearings etc. Shops around here are wanting about $500 in labor alone if i provide parts. I've got the 3.92's, wanting to get some 4.56's.
I'm just wondering how much of a headache this would be to attempt at home vs. biting the bullet and having a shop do it..
Thanks for any help..[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

if you dont have any of the tools, you could try going to advance auto or autozone something like that and take advantage of the loaner tool program....but i wouldnt make and guarantee that their tools will work for that or if they even have them....just take it to a shop and have someone do it so then if somethin goes wrong you can take it back to them and tell em they messed up lol
