Hey guys i'm new here, I have a 2006 dodge 1500 with about 40 000 miles on it. I was wondering how much tranny fluid to put in if i do the service myself. I read either 5 quarts or 8 which one is it...and yes i know about the 2 filters....i have the kit and i'm all ready to do it but i just want to know how much ATF +4 to put back in. Thanks

5 qts is all you need for a simple drain and fill. If you want to flush, disconnect the lower quick-connect on the trans cooler return line--just behind the radiator on the passenger's side. Attach a clear 3/8" line to the metal tube coming from the cooler. Put the other end of the clear tubing in a container capable of holding at least 3 gals. Start the engine and add fluid as the engine pumps dirty fluid into the container. Once you reach about 2 gals, stop the engine. Reconnect the cooler lines. Top-off as needed. I do this routine every 30k mi using Valvoline ATF+4. Since I use a gasket on the trans pan instead of the RTV, it's almost as easy as changing the engine oil.
