Default Oil question, no not the standard what oil should I use...

For those that change their own oil in their Hemi.

If you change the filter and put in the 7qts as the manual says does your dipstick read full or in the middle of the safe zone?

Mine is always in the middle of the safe zone, not full, even if I leave it sit over night. Just find that odd, could just be my dipstick which is why I am asking the question.

Buy a quart of oil and add little by little until you hit full. Since the Hemi has a big oil pan it's not impossible for it to be able to add another quart before you hit full.

Yep, in the middle. I actually do close to 8 quarts (or full 8) when I do mine. I like it to be at the max on the safe zone. Makes my tick happy....

I do the same, was just curious if I was unique. I end up with about 7.5QTS in there, and yes the tick is happier. I was reminded about it when I was getting a burger at a drive though and could hear the Hemi tick, put in the other .5 to take it from safe to full, no tick.

There is a Dodge TSB / customer information bulletinon this. Basically saying DON'T DO IT!

Too much oil is a bad thing. The dipstick accuracy is poor.
Drain it. Replace filter. Add the 7 qts.

Edit: I made a mistake, the TSB was for my Ford. The same reasoning applies toany engine.
