Default Lampout Light

Hi

Has anyone had a lampout noitice on their instrument panel?I got a lamp out warning yesterday. I replaced the left brake light (the parking light worked), the filament was intact.

When I replaced it, it worked fine. About 2 minutes later, my light stoped working again. I gave up and called the dealer to troubleshoot my electrical system. About 10 minutes later, the lampout notice went away and my brake light started working again.

Anyone has seen this?

I've got this on my '03 4.7. If you look at the contacts on the bulb, I always have one that looks pushed in, for lack of a better term, and it's black, like the plastic has been partially melted over it. I go through 1 to 2 bulbs a year due to this, even though as you say, the filament is still good. I've never really looked into the problem. It's happened on the left and right tail lights.

I just carry around an extra bulb or two so I can replace on the fly. That ding gets annoying really fast.

Yep, my light will come on about every 6 months. Annoying as hell. I think sometimes they just come loose. A good bang on the tail light sometimes fixes things. If not, change the bulb real quick. I started to use that bulb connection grease stuff? Haven't heard the beep yet. That beep sure is annoying!

Kreiger - that is exactly what I had on mine. The filament is intact but the base contact appears a little bit melted and the metal contacts are blackened.

It is working now. I will also try that grease thingy noted by Ricker

Thanks

Ooh, good call on the grease Ricker. Not that bulbs are expensive any way, it's just a pain in the posterior having to change them.
