Default Electric Shift on the fly or stick?

My 2007 Ram has the electric shift on the fly. I now notice some come with the stick on the floor.

Can some one explain the difference if any.

Do they both operate the same, just one shifts electrically and when in 2H are they both disconnected the same?

thanks,

Maybe I don't understand your question, but my 07 PW has the floor shift, which is basically a mechanical linkage. For me, I prefer this as I think it can be more realiable, and this is the type of system I look for.

this should answer your question....SHIFT MECHANISM (electric switch on dash)Operating ranges are selected with a dashmounted shift selector switch. The shift selectorswitch provides a input to the Transfer Case ControlModule (TCCM) to indicate the driver’s desire tochange operating ranges. The TCCM uses this input, along with input from the transfer case mountedmode sensor and information from the vehicle’s bus,to determine if a shift is permitted. If the TCCMdecides the shift is permitted, the TCCM controls theshift motor, mounted to the exterior of the transfercase, to perform the shift.

SHIFT MECHANISM (floor shifter)The transfer case is operated by an adjustable floormounted shift linkage. The transfer case shift leveris directly attached to the shift sector. The sectoroperates the range and mode forks within the transfercase.A straight line shift pattern is used with a NEUTRALdetent. Lever range positions are imprinted inthe shift ****.

One is electronically actuated....one is manual.
