I always use BP or Shell Premium, but I have a tuner as well. The quality of the gas is really important; a better gas will leave less residue and crap in the parts of your engine. I offset the cost of the Premium by the fact that my truck doesn't rack up as much mileage in the summer (I'll maybe put 1500 miles on in the next 3 months)compared to winter months , where I use it to get everywhere through the snow.

Guess I shouldn't mention that I run 85 then huh? In the middle of wyoming we only have 85, 87, and 91 where I am. I've ran two tanks (32 gallon on the Mega's I believe) without a single knock or hesitation. No difference in performance compared to 87 either.

I'd run it if I could get it! If it ain't knockin', I ain't payin'! Let them buy the 91+, you get the last laugh when you save enough money to buy what you want.

ok kids lets look at it another way... i work in n.y.c. and sit in heavey trafic every day...if i use 89 oct. i get 8-9 mpg... if i use 87 oct. i get 10-11 mpg... my point being use what works better for you and your situation...

I use 89 normally. I fill up once every 2 months with 91 and a fuel cleaner. But then my company pays for my gas.

As for detonation, newer vehiclescan compensate for this a whole lot better than they use to. So just because it ain't knocking doesn't mean it ain't killing your engine. Ever see that Shell display sign with dirty vs clean valves? I think (but not sure) they only offer that Guarantee with their High grade gas.
Sure you might save $200 over a years time. Heckmaybe even 7 to 8 hundredover 3 years. But what doesa topend rebuild cost?

Now with that said, I am running a SC Tuner in Performance 91 mode. But Ihave always tried to use a quality High Octane in my vehicles, and it is a good idea to run a good Fuel System cleaner through your vehicle at least once a year.

I did use regular once for a milage test on a long trip, no sir didn't like it.
I did this trip twice first time in 91 Performance mode and the second time in 87 Economy mode.
I got much better gas milage and performance in 91 mode.

Believe what you want, just my 2 cents.
