mopar CAI
Forgive me, For asking what has been asked manny times before but I'm looking to install a mopar CAI on the 5.7. I'm not worried abought increasing H/P but interested in improving the mileage.
So far I have added dual ex, installed a topper on my truck, switched to mobil one, under 18,000 Km I getting an average of 20 mpg highway at 60 mph, My truck is a 2500 reg cab slt 4x4, 6 sp 5.7. 373 LTD slip.
One question with the mopar CAI, dose it have a heat shield and what type of filter comes with the Kit.
My main reason for wanting the mopar CAI is partly due to the mopar name and to aviod any issues down the road with Chrysler trying to back out of warrenty work.

RE: mopar CAI
as far as using an aftermarket intake dcx, wont trouble you with the warrenty. my 05 dak has been in the shop numerous times for routine maintance and i have no trouble with the service dept. they said they like the look of the k/n and recommend it for these trucks.

RE: mopar CAI
gee, I have heard a lot too... I checked out volants web site, their CAI is a Ram air design and looks more complicating to install vers the instructions on the K/N web site, In Canada, aftermarket parts are expensive and so far I have found the K/N to be the best in terms of price and ease of install.
All CAI intsakes aper to basicly the same, the true flow CAI is a option ( at my mufler shop ) but I don't like the asetics of the kit.

You can get the volant CAI for about $250 on ebay.
How hard can i be to install? your basically just replacing the air box that's already there!?
I don't quite understand how it will be any better performance wise though... It looks like just replaces the air box and short tube to the flat air-box type thing ontop of the engine, which from a quick look, looks like the stock setup doesn't really have any restriction either???
Maybe someone who knows a little more can step in? I am lookin at CAI's too. My problem with most of them is that they either go into the wheel well, which makes cleaning a nightmare, and picks up alot of dirt, or they stay in the engine compartment, which means they are sucking in warm/hot air, even with a head shield, because the heat shield only goes around the sides and doesn't cover the top.
That's why I like the idea of the Volant, I just want to make sure it'd actually be an improvement over stock!?
