Bed Cover Question 05 QC Short bed
All,
I am currently stationedin Germany with the US Air Force and I need some advice for my recently purchased '05 1500 crew cab (Hemi-style
).
I need a good quality bed cover to keep things dry as we get quite a bit of rain here in Germany, and the crew and I do a lot of camping... but I've run into problems finding one that the US Postal system can deliver to an APO mailbox. I'm interested in a foldable hard cover like the Mopar or Bak-Flip ones, but they are just oversize for the mail system to ship.I looked into the UPS or FedEx international options, but theyare too costly to consider.
So it looks like I'm going to resort to a soft cover. I must say I'm not sold on the soft covers--I'm worried about the security of items in the bed. Anyone out there have a soft cover that gives some level of security?
Or, better yet, if you know a foldable hard cover that can be broken down into mailable sizes (and weight), please let me know.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
Scott

Check out autoanything.com. They have several different tonneaus (soft) that roll or fold with locks. I do not know if they ship abroad but this one place to start and will give you an idea of what is out there. The bad news is, unless you have a locking tailgate, a locking cover doesn't do you any good. This can also be rectified by buying a locking handle for the tailgate.
Hey, how goes. I'm in the Air Force in Arkansas. I understand it being outsized, but even with it going to an APO it is going to be too expensive? I've seen all sorts of large stuff go through by Mil-Air before. Dunno... just curious.
Anyway, I've got the ExTang Black Max soft tonneau on my truck.. I put it on hours after I got the truck for our 2000 mile trip back from PA. It's been through quite a few downpours and have not had any real leaks. Even got caught in a 3 hour standstill in a torrential downpour on the way back from Atlanta a while back. No leaks whatsoever. Only time I had any water get inside was when it got hit with direct horizontal spray from a pressure washer at the car wash.
That's my suggestion. Give it a look!
