They provide the sweet exhaust note your truck has. They aren't necessary, but they sound better than nothing. You can pretty much get the same sound through an aftermarket exhaust system, and that will be less restrictive than the factory system. But it'll cost you, of course.

yes they just help give your exhaust that "factory sound" and no they aren't needed. I no longer have resonators on my truck.

Yep, the truck will sound louder without them. A lot of people start with removing the back one first.

Here is a clip with both of mine removed with a 50 series single in single out muffler.

Yep, Highduke has it right.
They help eliminate exhaust resonance throughout your vehicle, in this case the cab of your truck. I left both of mine in place and R&R'd the stock muffler with a Flowmaster 50. Throaty yet quite. We can still have a normal conversation while driving on the interstate (no drone). Can't really tell when the ol MDS kicks in either.

Hey since exhaust is one of the more talked about threads anyone think it would be cool or possible to maybe have a sticky for posts of everyone’s setups? Be great for when someone wants new exhaust they could just browse for the setup that sounds good to them.
