hey guys i'm new to this dodge thing. i picked up a 03 ram 1500 slt rcsb 4x4 for a daily driver.( i have an 01 cobra vert which is a garage queen--I know you guys dislike fords, but atleast im honest) to my question......I thought i had a 4.7 until i decided to clean my engine this morning and saw all the 5.9 stickers. i was under the impression there was only a 4.7 and 5.7hemi. every time i went to check book prices i never saw a 5.9 as an option. I know im a jackass for not checking before i bought but it didn't matter because of the price i got it for, i was buying anyway.. love the truck and great site. looking foreward to learning about these trucks from u guys!

02 had the GEN II power train options. 4.7/Hemi was 03, or so I thought. Maybe it was a mid year change?

I would recommend you run the VIN online or at the dealership to figure out what you really have. Helps with buying parts.

 

go to your truck... get the 8th(engine code)and 10th(year codes)digit number/letter from your vin and tell us what it says.
ill give you the list of the engine codes:
8th DIGIT:
k - 3.7 v6
n - 4.7 v8
d - 5.7 v8
6 - 5.9 diesel
c - 5.9 diesel HO
z - 5.9 v8
5 - 5.9 v8 heavy duty
w - 8.0 v10

 

8th is Z and 10th is 3. I guess i do have a 5.9. that explains my gas mileage-lol. thanx da and 94rt for your quick help.

5.7L Hemi V8

Those of you out there with the 5 as the digit, heavy duty...do you still have the 46re transmission?
