My rear end blew at 45,000 miles. They replaced it with a new one also a Posi (anti-spin). Now around 40 I get a slight hum aswell. Idk what it is but I dont really want to bring it back unless it becomes a big problem, I have the powertrain warranty until 70K and 2010. I would like to know what the problem is though.

But I only hear the noise when im not on the gas.
That is exactly when I heard my noise. It is what they call neutral load; the engine is not really working to move the truck along. They could not fix it, so instead they changed the entire unit. I would get it checked out if I were you. I could not take the hum ANY more! Good luck. Red

The only common cases of hums I have heard of are from people putting in 4.56 gears (I guess it is common for them to hum). Must have been a bad axle like the dealer thought in your case.

The noise from my differential was loud enough to hear with the a/c on or even the CD player on. It is a noise that you can’t just put off as anything else. I brought mine to Lake Norman Dodge in Cornelius NC if you’re asking me. Red

Dodge dealers are pieces of ****. My new truck has 1200 miles and its wailing like a banshee. Took it to the first dealer who said "i dont think thats a problem." Called dodge USA who directed me to another dealer. Second dealer denied hearing anything for 15 minute and then said, I could probably go on the lot and find two other trucks that make that noise."

And in this thread there is evidence that a mechanic replaced the ring and pinion on 6 other trucks and another guy gets a new axle.

WTF do I need to do to get them to acknowledge this problem!!?

You need to print out this entire post and bring it to your dodge mechanic. If they do nothing, you need to find one who will. There is a problem that changing the ring and pinion does not fix but replacing the entire rear axel with a factory new one will fix. It was my mechanic who suggested changing the entire rear axel. She has been quiet since then and NOW I can enjoy my truck. Red
