Default Thinking about new rims, need opinions

Hey y'all,

It's been awhile since my last post, but I still lurk here from time to time. I currently have the 17 inch aluminum alloy rims on my truck. I figure at some point I'll upgrade to 20 inch chrome rims in a few years when I need new tires. In the mean time, I found a guy here in Atlanta that is willing to sell me hisset of stock17 inch chrome clad steel rims and center caps for $100. This seems like a good deal to me. I'll have to buy some chrome lugs, but I can still use the same tires I have on my truck right now (265/70R17 Yokohama Geolander H/T-S). I like the way the 17 inch chrome rims look better than the aluminum alloys that I have now. I might even be able to break even by selling my rims for $100.

I have two questions. Does anyone know what the set of chromed lugs will cost me? Should I expect to see any amount of loss in the MPG my truck gets since the chrome clad steel rims should be heavier? I currently average 15.8 MPG according to overhead display.

I'll be selling mine if I buy these. I'll let you know. Where are you located? I'm in Atlanta. If you're close enough to pick them up yourself you'll save alot of money in shipping.

I seriously doubt that little bit of a change is going to affect your gas mileage at all. For the lug nuts, are you wanting stock or after market? Stock lugnuts are about $2 a piece and aftermarket are a little bit more.

I bought the rims last night. You're right, HansonHVAC. I thought about the effects of the heavier rims. Since I'll be using the exact smae tires and there won't we any changes to the ride height and aerodynamics the gas mileage effects will be negligible. Theslightly heavier wheels will be a little harder to accelerate but they will alsohave more rotational inertia sothey should take less work to keep rotating at a constant speed and will allow the truck to coast a little better too. All in all I doubt I willsee any change in my gas mileage.

As for the chrome lugs,I calledthe closest Dodge dealer and asked them to price the stock lugs for me. They wanted over $7 a lug!!! I told the guythat I wasn'twilling to pay $140 for the lugs to mount my $100 set of rims. He then told me he could go as low as $5.25 a lug. I called my tire guy about getting the tires mounted on the rims and he told me that most of thechrome lugs they sell go for$1.50 to $2apiece.Needlessto say I'll be purchasing the lugs from my tire dealer. I just hope they have some that will fit the threads on my truck that also have the same head size so I can use the factory socket wrench and don't have to keep a separate socket and socket wrench in my truck in case I need to change a flat.
