Noise coming from the rearend.
I have a question about a noise that is coming from my rearend. When i make a sharp turn or just a regualr turn from one road to another, it sounds like something is grinding from my rearend. I can't tell if it is the brakes that are grinding the with rotors or the rearend gears are grinding together. i would appriciate the help. i figured i could come here for help before i start troubleshooting myselft.
I really don't know what i have. i haven't looked into the truck much. i was wondering how i could find out all of the information (what type of gears i have, anti-slip, & etc.). i figured i would have to go to the dealer and find out.
Look around on this forum, do a search for rear end problems. I had the same thing. A clip in the rear end that holds everything together may have broken. When you turn and hear the noise, look at your axle, see if it's sliding out. Stop driving it....if thats the problem, the metal shavings are tearing everything apart
When is the last time you changed the lube? Maintenance schedule is every 15K. When doing so you can look for the broken clip laying at the bottom.

If it makes this noise only on turns it almost surely is the clutches in the rear end making the noise. Could be due to what the others have told you or it could be as simple as changing the lube in the rear end. Either way, you need to either inspect it yourself and change the lube (best) or have it looked at by a competent mechanic right away.
When inspecting, if you see nothing wrong or the mechanic finds nothing, you can simply put in new lube. Either way, make sure that the refill is done with 75W-140 Synthetic with the 6 ounces of anti-slip additive. Any other lube will doom your rear end to failure in the future. Take it from someone that has been down that road.

ok thanks all for the help. where would that clip be that ya'll are talking about? i am going this thursday to have my oil changed at the local Express Oil Change. I will have them look at the lube and stuff. They will let me down there to look at it also. Do ya'll think this is a good way or should i just do it all myself?
Well if the clips are broke, they will be sitting at the bottom of the differential or flow out with the lube.
