Default Help I have mice nest in my venting system

We have a 2003 Quad cab 2500 and yesterday we decided to go for a drive with the family and we noticed this horrible smell of urnine. It was unbearable we noticed it was coming out the heater ducts. We sprayed everything we could find into the ducts but it still smells.

We also notice when we hit the button for outside air it the light when on and off- as we drove it is now staying on for outside air but still smells

We think they got in where ever the outside air vent is and probably have a nest with babies.

Where is the outside vent at?

What is the easiest way to get into the venting system?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated,
Lisa

the ouside vent is right under your windshield wipers, its the black plastic piece with vent ribs on it. Easiest way to access the venting system... probably rip the dash apart. You could always try spraying pure air into the vents, it works wonders but you want to make sure there are no rodents or nests in the venting first or it will be pointless.

Hi Freberd,
Welcome to the forums.

Are you positive about the rats?

Seems likeI remember a post, others were having a similar problem. If I remember correctly their was a TSB (recall) on it also.

I'm not the first person to run to my insurance company and make a claim. As a matter of fact, I've had maybe 3 claims on my car insurance in almost 30 years of driving, and NONE on my home owners, HOWEVER, things like this can be claimed on your car insurance.

If you try everything possible, it may fall under your Comprehensive insurance, under "Act of God", like striking a deer.

Not saying it as fact, but if it damages the vehicle, or causes it to be undrivable, it might be worth a try.

Uhmmmmm.....yummy.....the smell of old, stale rodent urine in the morning. [:@]

Yes we are pretty sure. There is a place on the firewall that they took insulation from

It does not smell like mildew very much lots of urine.

Any one have the drawings of the vent system?
Where is the flap to switch from outside to inside air?
Think it is close to there since it wouldn't stay on outside air at first and must of blown in as we drove because then we could switch to outside air.

Thanks so much for the help I guess we are going to get some barn cats

A friend of mine had mice as well. Sunk the whole front of his Chevy truck in a pond.Claims he eliminated the rodents.Truck wasn't worth a crap afterwards, or before, as far as I was concerned, but the moron didn't care, he told us he'd get them out and he did. I told him without the mice bodies, there was no evidence he really got them. I was joking, he couldn't handle my joke. Crazy S.O.B. , he still won't talk to me.Recently, I told him his truck wasn't real in the first place, it wasn't a Dodge. Now, he won't even look my way. With friends like me who needs enema's? Lol.
