My '04 RAM 1500 2X4 V-6 with auto has a minor whine in trans. Most noticable in 1st and 2nd.

This is my first auto trans on a truck of any type. Is a minor whine in trucks from Dodge trans normal?

 

I had an 02 Dakota with the 5.9L engine and auto which did have a whine similiar to what you describe. It wasn't objectionable and never seemed to cause any trouble. I think I can remember seeing some posts here in the past with some owners mentioning this whine. I have no idea if it is normal in your vehicle however.

I have not had any such noise from my present truck which also has the auto tranny, it's quiet as a mouse. Perhaps some others will comment on this so you might get an idea if it is a "normal" noise.
