My old 06 1500 hemi qcsb 4x4 did very good off road even with the bicycle tires dodge had put on it. I did not do mud, but sand, river (rock under) and hard pack were no problem. Don't forget to Vote for Mayfair for Truck of the month

If it's just a dirt/mud course and not obstacles like rocks & deep ruts, you may be in for an education. Subarus have a long rally heritage and do quite well with just some all-season radials. Is he in a plain Impreza (RS) or turbo (WRX)? Or even worse, a WRX STi? The STi has a computer-controlled center diff that really helps the car handle loose terrain. The 6spd is incredibly close spaced, meaning he's never out of the powerband.

He'd be better prepared if it was an Outback -- more suspension lift and still available with a turbo to go with the AWD. That version has 8.7 inches of ground clearance which makes it quite capable. They (like my Legacy) can run 14.0s in the quarter stock, so the power part of the equation is there as well.

Somebody knows there subarus. I took my 03 QC hemi up to Okemo mountain in Vermont and drove up the trails in the fall with stock suspension wheels and tires. Did damn well, better than I expected.

the car is just a plain Impreza ... I am fairly familiar with the Subarus because he is a good friend of mine and has an STi for a daily drive. I'm not going to lie, its a sweet car (Especially for an import) ... although it does have nothing on my RAM ... haha. Anyways, its not a real "track" its these trails that are in Buffalo that they allow you to drive on. A lot of large rocks and stuff on there. After taking my truck through there a few times, my buddy has conceded, lol. He didn't want to rip the bottom of his car off :-D I gotta get the digital camera out there.
