LOUD
I installed the K&N CAI 77 Series (I like shiny things) last weekend. I have not yet purchased a cat back exhaust system ,but plan to do after I get back from vacation. I like the additional power from the CAI ,but when you stomp on it (no self control) it is REALLY loud. I have CAI on both my other vehicles and they are not anywhere near as loud. They do have cat back exhaust though.
Sorry for the long intro to a simple question. In your experience will the noise reduce (get deeper) after the exhaust?

I have a K&N CAI too and i just got catback exhaust installed this week. I didn't really think it got louder but the exhaust is pretty loud. Not to loud, but just enough to let some know you are coming.
I noticed that too and I dont even have a real CAI. I installed the Liberty Intake and removed the turn tube intake at the filter box. It changed the sound of the truck, for a V6 at WOT, it doesnt sound bad at all. I havent even reinstalled the Flo 40 after my trip to the dealer. This is only the engine making the sound. I wonder if I removed the whole filter box. Also gained 1.75 mpg so far, even stepping on it. Boy, am I glad I'm back at 17.5 mpg.
When i put my CAI on it got conciderably louder but not unbearably loud. Now that I have the cat back exhaust, the engine sound and the exhaust sound awesome. I have the Hemi and im getting 18.1 mpg in the city and 23 to 24mpg on the high way. got to love that.

OK, here is the audio file. K&N CAI 77 Series only no exhaust yet. I doubt this will really get the LOUD part across. You can't hear the stereo when you stomp on it. Listening to the clip it just sounds good. My wife said it will just sell more CAIs.
Anyway, here it is. I guess I can compare when I get the exhaust on. Anyone know how to upload audio?

thats why i dont want to do a full CAI. a friend of mine had a newer acura tl and put an intake on it, and anytime he stepped on it thats all you could hear. i use to like the sound. but now.. ehh not when thats all you can hear
Yep - they're loud by themselves - even when you don't really put your foot too much in it. I had the same problem, added a Gibson cat-back - moderately loud - it sort of cancels it out and acceptable after the exhaust change.
