Default ? for those who've replaced their factory radio

I was all set to order a new head unit from Crutchfield to replace my stock Infinity head unit. Just before I finished adding it to my shopping cart, a message popped up and said that I would need to bypass the factory amplifier by running all new speaker wires to the speakers. I did an online chat with a sales rep and she told me that is what needed to be done. Does this seem correct? Why can't I just use the adapted wiring harness that comes with the new unit? Isn't that the point of an adapted wiring harness?

The factory head unit is passive,no power output at all. All the power comes from the factory amp. When you insert an aftermarket head unit into the mix, you end up with 2 power sources. With the adaptor harness you end up sending the aftermarket power into the factory amp. Bad news. Wire from the aftermarket head to the output side of the factory amp and this should cure your ills

I didn't have to rewire all of the speakers when I installed my headunit. Just wire up the adaptive harness and plug 'er right in and presto...a working new aftermarket headunit.

ARE YOU SERIOUS??!!?

My biggest complaint is that the head unit doesn't have enough power. I can keep it and replace just an amp to keep the stock appearance? That would be F'N awesome! Where's this amp?

The unit I want has a :

"Built-in Amp Switch: If the audio signals are output to external amplifiers, you can turn off the internal amplifier to improve audio quality."

Will this mean that I can basically wire ti up with teh adapter harness and then turn off the internal amplifier?

you must not have had the factory infinity system. You only would have to bypass the amp with that. I didnt have it so i didnt have to worry about it either.

Probubly not. The aftermarket head unit will most likely output RCA jacks. The factory infinity takes a flat buss plug
