Low idle
i have an 05 ram 1500 with the 4.7. Recently, it has been idling what i thought to be low at 600rpms. Two times in the last weed my truck has shut off when i am pulling in my drive at idle. Is this common with other dodge owners or what needs to be done to fix this? Its still under warranty but id like to know what was wrong before i take it to the dodge dealer so i can tell them whats wrongs so they dont have to spend time troubleshooting.
I'm hitting up some lunch here in about 10 minutes, I'll see where mine idles at. That will at least tell us if it is the assumed low idle or something else causing your truck to stall out.
I have a 97 dodge intrepid and it acts the same way. It idles fine until you are driving and get ready to stop and then it wants to drop below normal idle and die. Another member told me that it could be a vacuum leak/egr clogged/iac motor bad. Check the vacuum lines and make sure they are connected properly. Pull off the egr hoses and clean them good. If this doesn't work replace the iac motor.
My '07 did that just the other day. It was hot out and the a/c was on and she idled at 600rpm which felt low. I need to see where sheidles now because I have not noticed it since. Anyone else know what idle speed should be? Red
I have an '02 with the 4.7 and mine had that issue from new. It actually stalled a couple of times when at a light in traffic downtown! I found a TSB about it and had the dealer reflash the computer. That seemed to work for some time, but now it's getting back to the low idle situation. It'll drop to 500-600 or so, and sometimes dip lower and almost stall, and it is noticeably running low. A quicktap of the gas gets it to settle back where it belongs, or atleast where it "feels" like it is idling smoothly. I can't pinpoint exactly when it is doing it (cold vs. hot, etc.). Otherwise, it runs like it always did. Maybe there is a TSB out for the '05.

Not sure if this helps out.... But I had an 05 1500 with the 4.7... and it always idled low... around 500-550.... Had it at the dealer**** a couple times... and there conclusion was that the computer was just tryin to stay within emissions by burning a lower idle... But i have since replaced that truck with a 07 Hemi.... Which i would'nt say a bad thing about other then it does'nt have a towing package and can't keep itself clean.....It also after the warm up period it does idle at about 500 as well... But if you come across a fix... I'd like to know... .can't waste anymore time sittin in a lot of newer then my truck trucks...
my 06 hemi idles at 500 rpms with the A/C off, with it on it idles around 600. when it hits 500 it normally has a vibration, which i dislike.
when i took it to the dealership for a recall i asked them to higher the idle, they said they did, but it's still the exact same.
i've never had it stall, not once. not even a stutter. but i dislike the vibration at 500
