DTE is just a guide. You should have at least an 8 gallon reserve. I believe I have a 35 gallon tank in my 04 Dodge. When my console DTE reads zero, and I filled up the truck it only needed 26 gallons to fill it up. On the other hand the average miles shown is really accurate. I've gotten as much at 19.3 on the open road with my Hemi, and consistently get 14.5 around town. Much better than I would have guessed....

DTE is figured on gas milage and gallons used and has a 10% reserve. If you have a 25 gallon tank your DTE would read zero with approximately 2.5 gallons in the tank.
