Spark plug wires (short or long) ?????
The shorter the wire, the less resistance for the electrical activity to flow. This also goes with the thicker wire compared to the thinner set. You will always need a little play in the wiring though as the engine rocks a little with the motor mounts and you do not want them to tight that they will get pulled off. When you order new wires, make sure you just ask for the set that is for your truck and not any shorter or longer. Also, if comparing wire sets look at the diameter of the wire (usually in millimeters) and go with the thickest, and you should have a resistance reading as well offered to you for specs, (usually in Ohms) and get the lowest number here. One last thing to look into when buying wires is the sheathing around the wire for heat protection. If the sheathing around the wire is crap, the heat from the engine will increase the resistance of the wire possibly causing misfire and possibly more troubles down the road. There alot of good brands out there so happy shopping.
I was all set to go shorties until finding out that the second plug is fired 1/2 a degree after the first. If you go shorties, you fire them both at the same time. There's got to be a reason they're fired like this so it looks like I'll be sticking with stock-style wires. Function over form for me!
Is that something to do with the cap on each cylinder fires one plug on one side and one on the other (not explaining this well, sorry) criss cross fashioned. I would think that having a delay would allow for a more complete burn of left over gases in the cylinder, thus reducing emissions, but having them both fire the same cylinder would provide more power, burning all the fuel it can to produce power, not to burn off the left over. I am not a mechanic, so I am just guessing. Maybe someone can clear that up for me.
It was originally designed that way, but for 2006 hemis (both 5.7, 6.1) and the 392, they abandoned it in favor of the one piece dual coil. I guess it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Whenever I get the spare $$ I'm converting to the 06-up setup.
Both plugs in the cylinder fire at the same time for all3G Hemi engines. The plan was to do a sequential firing but that plan was scrapped because it offered no increased performance. Stock plug wires for sequential firing were already bought and paid for so weget them anyway.
