Rust issues, any on the Rams?
Hi everyone,
As some of my other posts have indicated I more than likely will get the 07 Ram 2500 Hemi 4x4. As I live in NJ, we do salt the roads, and I do plan on keeping the truck fora long time. Are there any spots on the Ram that rust out quickly? How do the frames hold up? A friend told me that Dodge doors are trash and they will rust VERY quickly? Any feedback on the above?
Also while at the dealer looking at the2007 Ram2500, I climbed under it and I was looking at the rocker panels from the backside. I noticed what appears to be about 4 or 5 oval holes in the rocker that were simply covered with black tape. In one spot, I pulled the tape back and I noticed that it was just an open void into the back of the rocker. That can't be good? Why are those holes there?
Thank you,
Zack

Well I cnat answer your questin about the Rocker panels, butI can everything else. My truck is an '03 from Detroit.I bought it used in '06 with about 34,000 miles on it, all from around the Detroit area. I jsut put new exhaust on it and htat was one problem rust area. I had to cut everything off brakets clamps the exhaust tubing itself. The back side of bumpers look really bad also (front nad back). Basicly every bolst nd visible are a bit rusty looking. Drive shaft has surface rust that does not look very nice. There is no real body rust and what rust there is on the truck is not really detramental to anything its mostly just cosmetic i guess you say.
I live in Ontario and have had some issues on my 2003 quad cab rusting in the rocker panel area at the corner by the back door. It was not rusted through but the salt and road crap sits in their and starts to rust. I was lucky as I caught it early and fixed it before it became a big problem.
Well... I've owned a set of dakotas and now a set of rams... and I have yet to see any rust.... Even tho someone keyed the side of my 05 Ram.... pretty deep too.... never rusted... had that for 2 winters... and plenty of salt... But the holes underneath with the tape.... Those are mounting holes... manly for side steps... Keep the tape on unless you install steps... then just punture it and let the bolt hold whats left... But never had rust there either... hope it helps...

Well that is good news. But where do those mounting holes actually go? Do they lead into the rocker? The factory tape was cheap, I would guess after one winter the tape would be gone.
