Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil
Take this info any way you want to:
I have been running 100% synthetic motor oil in all my vehicles since 1990. The shortest commute I've had since that time is 70 miles/day and for over ten years it was 140+ miles/day- up and down I-95 between Philly and/or Washington DC, with Baltimore in the middle. Some of the worst traffic in the nation. Changing my oil every 3,000-5,000 miles would have cost me serious $$$$.
My first pick-up was a 1990 Ford Ranger XLT with a 2.7L 4 banger. The oil pan gasket started leaking a bit at 108,000 miles, so I dropped it to change out the silicone one-piece gasket. The bottom end of that motor looked like it was two days old, and there was ZERO sludge or dirt in the bottom of the oil pan. And that was with oil changes at 10,000-12,000 miles.
Modern engines are manufactured with much more close tolerances than in years past, and with computers controlling every aspect of their function, they produce much less harmful products that find your way into your oil. I change my 5W-30 every 7,500-10,000 miles and I have no qualms about possible engine damage from such a frequency.

Synthetic oil has a few benefits over conventional oil.attemps of 250 and above, conv. oil becomes a nast sludge and useless. So one, synth. has considerably higher temperature resistance. Second at cold temperatures, synth. is far more fluid than conv. oil, helping with cold engine lubrication. And third, synth. has a higher capacity for trapping dirt and debree, to protect your engine better. So you can run synth. longer and be fine. The only way to go. Mine will go to full synthetic soon after break in. Stuck with the factory blended at the moment.

Simple Answer – NO!
I have been using synthetics for about 20 years. Most of the good rumors are true. (Factory use in new cars, Race teams using it in the engine with a different oil company sponsor on the car, Longer change intervals, Ect, ect…..)
I change my vehicles oil every five thousand miles with synthetic and the filter. Passenger cars, sports car, everyday truck and the main work truck. This opposed to three thousand miles with filter on regular oil has cost me no more and in the log run and has probably saved some money.
While the synthetics are “slicker†& “cleaner†(hot & cold) which is a big plus, my main concern is heat. In that department the synthetics can’t be beat.
As far as having it analyzed, I think that would be a waste of money as the fees are higher than you would think. If you need to locate a lab contact a university near you and ask for a recommendation but don’t use the university unless you have to. Most college labs are teaching labs and the results can be iffy if you don’t supervise the controls yourself.

yeah, i pretty agree with everyone else...i've been running synthetic in all my trucks since i've gotten them and never had a problem...i change mine about every 4K or so
Has anyone tried the Mobil 1 Extended that is suppose to last 15,000 miles?
I think I am going to try that and do an analysis at 10,000 miles to see how it is doing. I found a lab that will do extensive testing for $23.00.

I have a Blackstone Labs bottle sitting in my garage right now waiting on the next oil change. A small price to pay to see how the internals are wearing. Irun conventional oil because now that I live and workin a small area I put very little mileage on the truck. I could go a year withoutreaching the recommended synthetic change cycles and changing conventional on-time and on-mileage I feel is perfectly fine. Changing a good synthetic less then7.5K we be a waste of money to me.I've owned 2 vehicles that have reached 200K and 4 that have crossed 100K and never had to replace an engine. This in no way says synthetic isn't worth it, it's just that I feel that just doing good PM will go a long way to a long term ownership. My '84 Jeep has a pre-luber that I feel would be the absolute best thing anyone could do tomake an engine last forever.
its not that synthetic oils wont last longer than 5000 miles, its that your filter becomes full and the oil then holds in all the contaminents. i change my filter every 3000 miles and the oil every 6-7000.
i changed mobil one after 500 miles or so when i bought my truck new and then at 1500 miles ( just for break in period) i now change every 5k-7k and everything seems fine.... i tried royal purple on my last change and when i drained it it came out like water, real thin.. i didnt like the sight of that so i went back to mobil one. i use the purolator pure one filters and they hold up fine at 5-7k miles.... the mobil one filters i feel are the same qaulity as the purolatore pure ones. just stay away from fram and your good..
