Looking for updates on 4.10 gears
Hello I looking for responses from people who have had there gears for a while . Acceleration, Gas milage , city , hiway , Towing. how does it handle towing as far as holding a gear on slight inclines? Currently have 3.55in a QC,4x4,HEMI. Looking to go to 4.10 I thought 4.56 might be a little much for me. I like to run 72 on Hiway sometimes faster and get 17to 18 mpg with a few mods. Thanks!
I think 3.55 gears are only beneficial in 1500 series trucks if you have a 4.7, single cab, 4x2. IMO Chrysler should automatically go to 3.92's when adding Hemi, 4x4, OR Quad Cab. You have ALL THREE. If your tires are stock thru 33" then the 4.10's would be a great mod. 35" or larger then the 4.56's are perfect. I kinda wanted to go to 4.10's when I put 33" tires on the truck, but could in no way justify the cost as I had stock 3.92's (performance gains would have been too minimal for the investment). But as soon as I did the lift and added 35's I jumped right on 4.56's. Besides the lift, it's the best single mod I've done to date!
1-2mpg increase in town, much easier towing (higher RPM at speed makes the tranny not shift nearly as often as well as better accelerationpulling the weight)and the old "butt dyno" loves the faster take off's and quiker passing / responseon the highway! Only negative is I lose about 1-2mpg on the highway starting at about 70 mph.
Do it - Don't give it a second thaught, done by a competent tech. you will NEVER regret it.
and always remember...DON'T FEAR THE GEAR!!!

I paid about $200 per gearset for my 4.56's (4.10's would cost the same) as I have a 4x4 I needed 2 sets (front & rear), about $75 for a master install kit for the rear, and $400 to have them plus an Auburn Gear LSD installed in the rear. So I'd say on a 4x4 you are probably looking around $900 out the door w/o LSD on a 4x4 & like $550 on a 4x2.
Don't cheap out on a gear install, find a reputable shop, one that has experience doing gears. They are a tough install, as they have to adjusted & shimmed perfectly. Otherwise you'll end up paying for a whole new rearend later!
