for about a week now
only at a cold start up I smell antifreeze from the tailpipe just real faint and quick odor
I see that my coolant level has not changed at all coolant changed and t/stat 10/06
anyone else have this problem or seen it or heard of it ?
any Idea's as to what it could be ?
truck is a 2002 4.7litre 4x4 quad cab auto trans with 80457 miles
there are no leaks at all under the truck no type of fluids at all

 

Your head gasket could be ready to go. Usually coolant from the tail pipe is a first sign.

 

I agree with Wishbone. I recommend that you get the cooling system pressure checked before you loose one of the gaskets or seals.

I dont think you should really be smelling what comes out of your exhaust pipe, lol.

 

well my first thought was why are you smelling your exhaust? are you feeling lonely? are you feeling depressed? was there a hose running to your window? haha just kidding man but yes i definately agree with the head gasket theory

I have remote start and I generally
start it at about 20-30 feet away when I walk up to the truck
and I can smell it in the morning and when it sits for awhile
just a little smell but definitly from the exhaust pipe

 

did you find out what it was?

 

I had the truck pressure tested and the test found nothing no leak down at all
then 7/21/07 the smell just stopped since then it doesnt smell at all ?
I see the coolant level is where it should be and no coolant in the oil either
I dont know what to say and either does the dealer I took it to 2 times now for it
truck runs right no miss no loss of power or overheating no coolant missing
so I dont know what to say just weird if you ask me

 

It's Those Gremlins onces againscrewing with you they normalyscrewing with me but I have not seening them in a while they must like you better at least for now Ha Ha.

But I sure they will make there rounds back to me never fails.
