3rd Strike CAI
Doesn't aluminum conduct heat easily/well? Meaning the tube would get hot fast heating the air more rapidly as it goes through the tube to the intake?
A little FYI to all of you guy's out there thinking about slapping on a CAI. If the filter on the "new" CAI isn't close to where the intake duct for the stock airbox was (right by the radiator), then you might look into getting two things.
1. The Jet Stream scoop (kind of a mini...say... air-funnel.....directing air from the front of the truck to the side of your radiator directly to your air filter. this can be bought on airram.com
2. A heat shield...many of these are metal....I custom made a heavy plastic/polymer one. (this puts a shield between the high underhood engine temps and your precious cold air). (only reason I used plastic is due to metal ones conducting heat....almost like putting your filter in an oven).
Remember cold air = hp

I ordered this intake last night

What the hell right!! Astetically it will be perfect and the filter should be easy to service.
We'll see and I'll post results

i'd go for a name brand one...i had an ebay CAI on my truck that i bought for $45 cause i thought it was a hell of a deal....here's the problem with it: the filter didnt come anywhere close to where the stock filter got all it's air...in fact, the filter on the new CAI sat in the same spot as the stock intake did and didnt really do a whole lot for performance just made more noise.
I sold it and bought an AEM Brute Force and that was one hell of a difference. The filter sits way down behind the headlight next to the radiator, comes with a full heat shield that seals against the hood, and doesnt have that annoying whistle of the ebay CAIs....i've also noticed a better throttle response, better fuel mileage (about 1.5-2 mpg) and NO annoying whistle...
oh by the way...i bought the AEM Brute Force on ebay for $170

Nothing wrong with hunting for a bargain on a quality namebrandCAI, but you're asking for trouble if you put inferior crap on your truck because it was cheap. There's a reason it's cheap, and the reason is, IT'S CHEAP!!!
