Default Exhaust

Ok guys I jumped under my truck and seen that the exhaust piping looks bigger than what it should be even though we have a Y-pipe. So my question is would it be better to go with a 2.25" or 2.5" diameter piping for the exhaust? And what would the best mufflers be for it?

How loud do you want the truck is the first thing you should ask you'r self. LOUD is fun at first but after a while you will get sick of the noise.

My 06 go's from 2.75 to 3inch then back to 2.75 stock I first whent with a Maganaflow 20 inch long 3 in 3 out it was fine as long you keep you foot out of it but the straight thur of the Magnaflow was too loud for me and my family.

At 70 MPH in 6 gear cruising it was not bad but as soon as you down shift to climb a hill or head winds It was Loud to loud for every day driver Family truck.

Taking off from a stop light the Magnaflow had a ok sound but just not what I wanted.

I had the Magnaflow tooken off then put on a stock type Muffler 20 inch long 3 in 3 out Love it has nice rummble like a stock V-8 nice when at Idle.
Whenyou foot on it very very nice rummble at HWY speeds not super loud kind of sounds like a stock 5.0 GT mustang. When down shift to passing or to keep speeds up for head winds Ect sonds good.

Best of all no rice bunner sound some aftermarket mufflers give you that sewing machine sound I hate that sound.

I actually like the sound of the stock exhaust pretty well. It has a small resonator built in at the end of the tail pipe. I'm not a fan of Flowmaster or Magnaflow on V6 engines. If I where to change it I would go true duals and put 2 Cherry Bomb glass packs on. That would be mellow at idle and normal driving but throaty when you get on it.

The only Draw back I found with the 3.7 V-6 it weights 4999 LBS empty for a 4X2 Q-Cab. With power package,

So you have you'r foot in it a lot at least for me thats how it worked out the noise got to me after a while.

I took some stuff to the dump the other day and they weighted my truck to seee how much stuff I dropped off this why I know how much it weights I would think the truck weights more than 4999 LBS.

I must 2nd that that stock muffler did sound good like I posted before I end up going back to a stock type of muffler more thoaty sounding than stock but not loud still keepping some back pressure pick up some more power off the low end and very little MPG Gain like .10, the Magnaflow are good mufflers but more for V-8 set up where you foot is not in it as much and they rev lowwer at hwy speeds..

Some of you guys where asking about the factory resonator. I'm not sure what year Dodge started these but here is a picture. Like I said it makes a pretty good sound.

My Muffler guy told me when I put my Magnaflow on the stock Resonatoris just there if I had it cut off I would not hear any diffrents don't know my self but it is very short it can't do to much.

The stock muffler was little to quite for me and the Magnaflow was way to loud the stock type after market muffler was just right 3 inch in 3 inch out 20 inch long little louder at idle inside cab nice rumble at tail pipe nice rumble at HWY speeds in the cab, Not loud during heavy acceleration sounds like a V-8 still have good back pressure.

Very happy with this set up.
