Default aftermarket roof dvd units

HI everyone

My first post here. We live in New Zealand but last month I came to the USA and bought an '06 Ram 2500 SWB Quad cab 2WD Laramie 5.9 in Inferno Red. Great truck! I also bought a 5th wheel RV and drove both up to Buffalo (from Athens in TX), where they are in storage until re return in 2 weeks for a 3 month nationwide tour of your beautiful country.

Anyway that's the background of my post. Since we are going to spend LOTS of time driving, I've been looking at aftermarket roof mounted DVD units for my kids. However I do remember reading something yonks ago that I need some sort of adaptor plate to actually mount one of these dvd players to the roof? Or is that only for the factory unit?

My other option is to replae the standard (non-nav) stereo with a double din unit, but it looks like by the time I add in the replacement dash bezel that allows me to fit a standard double DIN stereo, the price climbs too high for me.

Any help with this greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get back to drive my truck!

Cheers
Fred

Welcome to the site. I feel your pain as far as the DVD player goes but something I found that is ungodly cheaper is a plain old portable DVD player for passengers to watch. Just an option.

As far as your tour of the US goes try to hit Yellowstone and Mt Rushmore on your journies, I just got back from revisiting them last week.

Thanks Pirata

I had thought of that solution but I want to use the monitor for a reversing camera too, so portable not totally suitable...still a possibilty, but after something a bit more permanent.
