This is a quick qestion about the 4.7l in the 2008's
Ok guys well everyone knows I want a new truck. I like RCSB 4x4 and stick shift. that would mean i'd be looking at a 1500 4.7 v8. but I also like the venerable CTD with the six speed. unfortunately you can't get a RCSB CTD but I could live with QCSB if it meant having the Cummins. but if no cummins then I want RCSB. All personal preference not raggin on anyone that has a Quad or mega and automatic trannies. but I've heard that the 08 4.7L v8 is supposed to be redone to make more power? Is this true or justa rumor. my pops has a 06 1500 RCSB 4x4 4.7 and six speed. It has lots of get up and go especially with the six speed but I would always like to have more. How true is the rumor that i heard was 300 hp and 345 tq but I dunno how true it was.
Numbers I'm seeing for the 2008 4.7 are 310 HP & 345 TQ.
In fact the 3.7 V6 is almost up to where last years 4.7 was in horsepower...
Only thing is the website I went to showed the Hemi w auto tranny as being the only available engine in 4x4's, even SCSB's.
Was not an official Dodge website though, so info may have been incomplete...

Well for one thing it's price. but heres where i'm at now. I'm a college student taht has a beat up 97 jeep wrangler that is just getting to where the price of repairs is adding up throughout the year to what a years worth of auto payments are. so the simple solution would be to go for a new car. plus I'm barely paying anything ofr college due to scholarships so I don't have to worry about that. but it's hard to justify the 40k plus price tag of a CTD when you know you will never use what it can do. I never tow hardly ever need to put anything in the bed but I always liked pickup trucks. I thought a jeep would be cool and it was. but over a few years the constant water leaks into the cab and just other issues are really getting old.
I hope that you are wrong with that info hammer lol. Otherwise I dunno what i'm gonna do. I guess then I'll have to eat that cost of teh cummins or just get used to an auto tranny. I could probably deal with it but it's just a personal preference that I like stick. May I ask what website you were on. Dodge doesn't have their 08 ram up on the site yet so I dunno.

sweet dude thank you. I'll look into it. I'll be dissapointed if that's truebut I just found out that dealers can order 08's already so I'm gonna take a trip down there this weekend and price out a few. I really like dodge trucks and my dad just bought his first dodge which is the exact truck I want except it's an 06. I've driven it and it has a lot of pep to it. I would be happy with that amount of power and would be thrilled to get one with the 290 hp motor or if it's more.
If you have no purpose for the torque ofa CTD, go for the 08 model with the 4.7. I know for sure that the higher output version will be available in Daks, but not so sure about Rams. They may play the game and want until 09 to release them in the Rams. More than likely, they wont though. A 4.7 in a regular cab with six speed should get up and go pretty damn quick. If I didn't have or need a Mega with a Hemi, I would have a 4.7 regular cab truck. Plus, with the money you save on the 4.7, you can add on whatever you want in the long run and have fun with it. Being 22 years old with a full time job at ARP and in college, I know how tough it can be. Whatever you get, you will have fun with it. Good luck!!!

Yea that's kinda how i'm thinking of the CTD right now. Yea it'd be cool and awesome but the price and the fact of the matter is I will never need more than a half ton with a small v8. I love driving my dad's the six speed shifts really nice and is smooth. It goes real good as is i really couldn't imagine it with another 65 ponies on it. It's nice to see i'm not the only kid who goes through college on his parents money. granted they are helping with what's left of my tuition but I pay for books and all else. It's hard to work full time and go to college that's why I want to reward myself with a truck. lol

Boy those were the days, my parents were the same way. For my 18th birthday, I got a gift, and a birthday card, and in the card was a rent bill!!!
My first summer job was working for my uncle's septic tank company (****ty job) working in the heat & stench, in hip boots, all day long. I saved up and got a '72 Jeep J10 Honcho, AMC 360, bed rusted out, floorboards done over in plywood. But engine was a tank, started on the first crank when it was 10 below zero in upstate NY. Couldn't afford gas for it (even at 1982 prices) so my 2nd purchase was a '78 Honda Hawk motorcycle...
