Brake Caliber paint
Hey All
I'm thinking of painting my brake calibers and I was wondering does it matter if I go with just your regular off the shelf Krylon at about $5.00 or do I need the so called "Caliber" paint at $15.00 a can and that takes 2 days to dry too. My buddy just did his new PontiacG6 calibers and used the "Caliber" paint. Is it because of the heat generated by the brakes?

yeah definatlely go with the caliper paint. If you have questions ask Silver_Dodge. Hes in the second gen forum, but he just did his front calipers and they turned out really good!
Hey manI just painted mine about 2 weeks ago andI went with the caliper paint. I got it at advance auto parts for about 8 dollars a can. It dried super fast. I did a whole brake job whileI was at it soI took out the calipers and painted them off the car. It came out great and after a few washes it still looks great... then again a friend of mine painted his with regular metal paint 6 months ago and his still looks great too. Its alot of work and i just figured that for an extra few bucks i rather do it right the first time.
I sprayed mine with regular old red rattle can paint and they look good and havent chipped or any other bad ****. I sprayed like 3 coats for each caliper, let em dry and put the wheel back on. only 3$ for paint, puuuuuuuuuurfect.

HOWEVER, after doing my calipers in Ceramic Caliper paint, the finish is 5X shinier, and resists brake dust sticking much better. The Caliper paint came from Advanced Auto and was *maybe* one dollar more then regular spray paint......
Looking at them side by side, you'd probably want to spend an extra dollar or two and get the caliper paint.
How good your finish will turn out depends on how well you clean your calipers before painting them. I used a good rag and laquer thinner to wipe mine down relaly good to get all the road dirt and brake dust uff of them , prior to painting.
