real 4x4
thanks for all the info, i was just doing research on 4x4 drive and most people that i talked to up there only drive jeeps due to the conditions. i have never been stuck in my truck, but i just do some lite off roading in florida, nothing serious.
I agree with Chet, gotta know how to drive in the conditions. I dont even have a rear locker yet and i survive the nasty minnesota winters just fine. Never been stuck unless i was off road messing...
I grew up in northeastern Pennsylvania. I learned how to drive in rain, snow, and other inclement conditions from the very beginning. We got to Arkansas in early 2000. There was a snowstorm right after we got here that dumped about 6" in just a few hours. I was honestly impressed! This is NOT normal for Arkansas winters, even in the Ozarks.
What I wasn't impressed by was the way people drove! Big 4x4 trucks were off in the ditches still spinning their wheels. Slow and steady wins the race in bad weather. If you are staying on the main roads, you'll do just as well with a front wheel drive car as you will with a 4x4 truck. However, who wants to stay on the main roads...?!
I *want* to say that studded tires aren't legal in Arkansas, but I really can't be sure. It sounds very familiar, though.

i have an uncle that lives there in Lead Hill, AR and he has a wrecker service. he was saying that sometimes he has to use the winch on his wrecker to get down the roads, thats why i am so worried, the ice and winding roads, drop offs and such, i really want the traction if i can get it. everyone, thx for all the advice, and just for the record, i think that i own one of the best trucks on or off the road.
